Spider

RENAULT SPIDER

The history of Renault is strongly connected to the automobile sport history. It is decorated by models that were signed up in a golden font on the pages of the history of automobile competitions.
Do you think it was just by an accident that young Louis Renault made a decision on December 24th, 1898 to conquer the hill in the Lépic street measuring the time? Sportive car Renault-Alpine, the winner of Rallyes 1973 most of us remember very well from the times this car had been winning one race after another and it became a friend of many fans. Two-liter Barquette, the winner of Europe 1974, when it got the 1st prize in 7 races out of seven, appeared later. The Renault-Alpine first prize in Le-Mans 1978 race with the pilots Jassaud and Pironi crowned the succeses of our mark.
Renault Spider Sport is a successor of sucessful Renault Alpine. It uses a lot of elements of a concept car Laguna, too. It is a car-to-play-with for those ones who drive responsibly but they like to relax while driving. Renault Spider Sport fulfils an empty space on the automobile market. This car wants to bring happiness to people´s lives, the same happiness its constructors felt while creating this car. We can share this feeling now.
Renault Spider denies in full the prejudice that roof is the symbol of comfort. The first Spider version is even without the front screen, which would otherwise break the grace of its body line. You can enjoy the feeling of riding in contact to the landscape. Special aerodynamic construction protects the passengers from the air. This construction leads the air drawn in front vertically upwards, approximately at the place where the front screen would be.

Spider

Created for race and for pleasure

Renault Spider Sport concept uses from the beginning attested technical solutions. This outstanding car is designed for the road as well as for the competition ring. The constructors chose light and firm aluminium chassis in order to accord the car´s outstanding performance, riding characteristics and braking system to the high-level parameters. This chassis in combination with the body made of plastic and composite materials made a compact unity fulfilling the optimal performance and accident prevention and protection demand. The car is really unique due to its engine, fitting, arrangement and basically its modernity. There are two produced versions -- with the front screen and without.
The gearbox and the engine are as one unit transversally fixed in an oscillating hinge inspired by aeronautics. There are silent blocks of an original character in the inside part of the device, linkages with rubber stops and very flexible double-fastenings outside. Due to this arrangement the transmission of strong engine vibration to the chassis is almost impossible. A research leading to this concept accords the philosophy of this car "for pleasure".
Spider applicated the results of a research of alluminium use in construction of automobile chassis. Due to the welding of pressed aluminium profiles of an enormous firmness, low weight and outstanding impact resistance was reached. Rusting is impossible.
Spider's constructors intended to use maximum of Renault's elements. It is easy to recognize this idea on the chassis and wheel suspension. A new approach was chosen. Special elements were created in order to allow this car to fulfil its purpose at its best.

 SpiderPerfect ergonomy

This outstanding model brings another specific feature -- adjustable pedals. Combining it with longitudinally adjustable seat gives you the possibility to reach the optimal driver´s position. The safety of this car is enhanced thanks to this device as well as the pleasure of driving. Heating system leads just to the passenger´s legs as usual in a sportive car. The instruments are well-arranged, their placement is in accord to the character of the car.

Accident protection

Dominant advantage of the chassis is lightness, firmness and homogenity. By combination of these three characteristics a fourth one is born -- an impact resistance. Renault research centre provided simulation by an impact reconstruction. The results proved outstanding abilities of an aluminium structure. The construction is able to eliminate the impact energy also due to the use of aluminium and its absorbing ability, which is 1,5x higher than steel absorbance ability. Spider resists the impact without any deformation of the inner part of the frame and with the lower lift of the axis of the steering wheel column than the standard accepts. The car´s philosophy does not release proved principles, the model is anyway innovative. It makes the wish to find an optimal safety real.
